(June 17, 2006) - The Virginia-class nuclear attack submarine Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Hawaii (SSN 776) currently berthed at the Electric Boat Shipyard is decorated for her christening ceremony. Hawaii is the third Virginia-class submarine to be christened, and the 1st major U.S. Navy combatant vessel class designed with the post-Cold War security environment in mind and embodies the war fighting and operational capabilities required to dominate the littorals while maintaining undersea dominance in the open ocean. (Jun. 17, 2006) - Hawaii Governor, the Honorable Linda Lingle smashes a bottle of champagne against the sail of the Virginia-class nuclear attack submarine Pre-Commissioning Unit (PCU) Hawaii (SSN 776) during the ship's christening ceremony. General Dynamics Electric Boat President, Mr. John Casey and Secretary of the Navy, the Honorable Dr. Donald C. Winter, watch as the ship receives the governor's blessing. Церемония крещения новой ПЛА ВМС США "Гавайи" (SSN 776).
Это третья по счёту ПЛА типа "Вирджиния" и первый корабль ВМС США, спроектированный для решения боевых задач и проведения специальных операций в Мировом Океане с учётом особенностей текущего момента (окончание "холодной войны", борьба с терроризмом, сбор разведданных etc).

Губернатор штата Гавайи г-жа Линда Лингл разбивает бутылку шампанского в присутствии Джна Кэйзи, президента компании Дженерал Дайнэмикс Электрик Бот, и Дональда Винтера, военно-морского министра США (или кто он там у них ?)
